Cadbury desserts urgently recalled as they may contain potentially deadly bacteria

If you're a big fan of Cadbury chocolate, particularly in dessert form, you'll need to check your fridge as a number of products have been recalled over fears they may contain potentially deadly bacteria.

Shoppers have been urged to return both Cadbury Caramel Cheesecake and Cadbury Dairy Milk Cheesecake puddings after a product recall due fears were raised that the desserts contain listeria.

Listeria monocytogenes (listeria) is a bacterium that causes an illness called listeriosis.

Cases of foodborne illness from listeria are rare, but can involve serious symptoms and even death in certain groups of people.

These include people with weakened immune systems, such as those suffering from cancer.

A spokesperson for Müller, which produces the desserts, said: "As a precautionary measure a decision has been taken to recall some batches of Cadbury Caramel Cheesecake and Cadbury Dairy Milk Cheesecake deserts (2x85g), due to the possible presence of Listeria in the product.

"We have informed the Food Standards Agency of this action and they have issued a Product Information Recall Notice."

Consumers should return the products by emailing consumers@muller.co.uk or by calling 01630 692000.

"This is an isolated incident and an extensive investigation is being carried out," the spokesperson added.

"Müller produces these products under license from Cadbury and has stressed that this does not impact any other products it produces for Cadbury; or Cadbury Cheesecake variants in the UK or other markets."
