Cabinteely FC call for an end to pitch vandalism after car destroys Kilbogget Park

Cabinteely FC have called for an end to pitch vandalism after being encouraged by the local outrage over their pitches in Kilbogget Park being damaged.

Pictures show the surfaces of the pitches used by the League of Ireland First Division club completely dug up by tyre tracks, with a burnt out car left in the middle of the field.

Two of their pitches could be out of action for "weeks or months", the club posted yesterday.

Locals were angered by the incident, which will severely affect one of the city's biggest junior clubs.

Will Clarke, the Director of Football at St Joseph's Boys FC - Cabo's local rivals - have offered the use of their pitches until the club can get back on their feet.

And the club have asked for a local meeting to sort out the situation and to prevent any future acts of pitch thrashing.

"The response to the destruction of pitches in Kilbogget Park has been overwhelming," the club said.

"Very heartening. Hopefully some good will come from this.

"Thanks to other clubs for their messages of support and offers of help. Thanks also to the local Councillors who got in touch and to Minister Mary Mitchell O'Connor for her involvement at a difficult time for her.

"Cabinteely FC would like to send our sympathies to the Minister on the recent passing of her mother. RIP.

"We are seeking meetings with Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council and An Garda Siochana for an urgent restoration of the pitches and plans to prevent a recurrence of this nature.

"Thanks again to everyone for their support."

This is not the first incident to happen over the Christmas period, with pitches on Benmadigan Road in Drimnagh also destroyed by what appeared to be a scrambler or quad bike.
