Bengaluru: Cabbie arrested for murdering wife

BENGALURU: A 37-year-old cab driver has been arrested on the charge of murdering his wife in Cauverypura, Kamakshipalya, off Magadi Road.

Police said the accused, J Ashok, fled his residence after murdering A Vanajakshi, 31, on the night of April 17. The couple’s three children were staying in their paternal grandparents’ house in Tumakuru district.

The incident came to light on Wednesday night when Vanajakshi’s brother Shivaswamy visited the house and found it locked. He grew suspicious due to foul smell and with some neighbours’ help, Shivaswamy broke the door open and found Vanajakshi’s decomposed body. Suspecting Ashok of murder, he filed a police complaint.

According to family sources, Ashok regularly fought with Vanajakshi over her fidelity. Sources said Ashok confessed that the couple had a fight on April 17 night. “When I came home, she was speaking on her mobile phone with someone. I asked who it was and, when she did not respond properly, I fought with her and smothered her to death,”Ashok reportedly told police.

Soon after locking the house, Ashok fled to a friend’s house near Magadi, from where he was arrested on Thursday.
