C.J. Prosise had offseason abdomen surgery, could replace Mike Davis

Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll provided some injury updates at the NFL meetings on Tuesday. That included an update on oft-injured running back C.J. Prosise, who had surgery on his abdomen this offseason.

Carroll said that Prosise recovered well, and even indicated that he has a chance to fill the role that Mike Davis, who departed Seattle for Chicago this offseason, had last season.

Of course, Davis and Penny fought for the No. 2 running back role behind Chris Carson in 2018. Penny is expected to hang on to the No. 2 role this year, putting Prosise in competition for the No. 3 job.

His competition on the current roster is former Alabama running back Bo Scarbrough and J.D. McKissic. Scarbrough is more of a Carson-style running back, while McKissic is similar to Prosise in speed and pass-catching ability.

Even is Prosise is healthy, his odds of winning the No. 3 running back job look slim, particularly if Seattle chooses to bring more competition into the fold either from the draft or free agency.
