BYU LB Sione Takitaki visiting Rams ahead of 2019 NFL draft

Even though they cut Mark Barron in a cap-saving move earlier this offseason, the Los Angeles Rams aren’t settled on their current group of linebackers. They were open to bringing Barron back and monitored his market, only to see him sign a two-year deal with the Steelers.

There are several options available in the draft, even in a top-heavy class that features Devin White and Devin Bush. Sione Takitaki is one potential target for the Rams as they’re taking closer look at the BYU linebacker.

According to Josh Norris of Rotoworld, he’s visiting the Rams on Monday.

Takitaki is an interesting prospect because of what he went through at BYU. He sat out the 2016 season before returning the following year and eventually becoming a team captain. He had 119 tackles and four sacks last season, breaking up three passes and forcing a fumble.

In 2017, he had just 79 tackles, but 12.5 of those were for a loss. He also posted a career-high five sacks that year, while also posting two passes defensed.

Takitaki won’t be anything more than a late-round pick and potentially an undrafted free agent, so if it’s the latter, at least the Rams will have some background on him if he becomes available.
