BYU FOOTBALL: BYU’s 2019 New Signing Class

2019 National Signing Day is today, and here is who BYU successfully recruited and where their rankings stand on offense and defense.

 

 

Defense

BROOKS MAILE – DL – St. George, Utah

Pine View High School – 6’4″, 285 lbs

•A three-star recruit by 247 Sports and ESPN

•Also recruited by Utah State

He totaled 57 tackles as a junior and 63 as a sophomore, as well as played rugby and basketball.

BLAKE FREELAND – DL/OL – Herriman, Utah

Herriman High School – 6’8 -260

•A three-star athlete by 247 Sports, Rivals and ESPN

•Also recruited by Utah, Cal, UCLA, Vanderbilt, Nebraska and Utah State

Freeland played quarterback, defensive end and tight end in high school. He was a two-time all-region election. He also played basketball and was on the track and field team where he was a six0-time all-state selection in track. He took the state championship in shot put and javelin, along with setting the 6A record for javelin. In basketball he went all-state a two-time team captain.

CALEB CHRISTENSEN – DB – Smithfield, Utah

Skyview High School – 5’9, 180 lbs

•A three-star athlete by 247Sports

•Also recruited by Southern Utah and Dixie State

He had 18 tackles on defense and 346 kick return yards on only seven returns as a senior. Along with that he posted 71 tackles and eight interceptions during his sophomore and junior seasons. He was a two-time all-state elections and three time all-region and all-valley selection.

ERIC ELLISON – DB – Banning, California

Mt. San Jacinto – 5’11, 170 lbs

• A three-star athlete by 247Sports

• Recruited by Washington State, UNLV, New Mexico, Northern Arizona and Idaho State

He played running back, wide receiver, kick and punt returner and defensive back. While doing all that Ellison posted 27 touchdowns in sophomore and junior seasons. He was then named athlete of the year, and a two time MVP. He also played basketball and ran track.

BRUCE MITCHELL – DL/ OL – Kamas, Utah

South Summit High School – 6’4, 265 lbs

Mitchell Helped South Summit to back-to-back 2A state championships in 2017 and 2018. He was apart of a team that went 33-2 in three years as a varsity player. He totaled 76 tackles and 13.0 tackles for loss as a senior. Along with that her returned an interception for 65 yards for a touchdown, and a fumble for 30 yards in 2018. As a junior, Mitchell had 50 solo tackles and four sacks on defense. He also played basketball.

MICHAEL DALEY – LB – Highland, Utah

Lone Peak High School – 6’3, 220 lbs

•A three-star recruit from 247 Sports

•Also recruited by UCLA, TCU, Utah State, UNLV, Air Force, Rice, Yale and Princeton

He was named Deseret News 6A MVP in 2018 and helped LPHS to 2018 state championship as a senior. He was first-team all-region in selection in 2017. With that he posted 76 tackles as a senior, along with 40.5 tackles for loss, 24.5 sacks and four blocked punts.

GEORGE UDO- DB- Walnut Creek, California

Berean Christian High School – 6’1, 210 lbs

•Also recruited by Oregon State, Sacramento State, San Diego and UC Davis

He was named a first team all-league defender in 2018 and selected to the 2017 all-league honorable mention. Along with that he was a 2017 & 2018 scholar-athlete selection. He also played fullback. Udo ran track and played basketball as well.

CADE ALBRIGHT – DB – San Juan Capistrano, California

San Juan Hills High School – 6’5, 215 lbs

.•A three-star athlete by 247Sports and ESPN. He also was 247Sports Top 100 prospect in California

•Recruited by UCLA, Utah, Cal, Oregon State, Washington State, Notre Dame, Nebraska and Utah State

Albright had 62 total tackles as a senior, including 19 sacks and 33 tackles for loss. With that he was named 2018 Sea View League Defensive MVP, and a first-team All-Sea View league honoree. Albright was also named to the L.A. Times All-Star team, earned All-County recognition and gathered 47 tackles with 13 tackles for loss as a junior. He also played basketball

Dimitri Gallow – DB – Moreno Valley, California

Mt. San Jacinto College – 6’0, 190 lbs
  • Also recruited by Purdue and UNLV

Gallow played in 10 games in 2017 and osted 31 tackles and had four pass breakups. With that he earned First-Team American Mountain All-Conference honors. He was named second-team all-conference at Mt. San Jacinto in 2016. That year he had 19 tackles in 10 games and led the Eagles with three interception in 2016.  Prepped at Valley View High School in Moreno, California.

Offense

JACOB CONOVER – QB – Chandler, Arizona

Chandler High School – 6’1, 205 lbs

•A four-star recruit by 247 Sports, Rivals and ESPN, and an ESPN top 300 recruit

•Also recruited by Alabama, Arizona State, Arizona, Northwestern, Ole Miss, Oregon State, South Carolina and Washington State

He led Chandler High School to three consecutive state titles while throwing for more than 10,000 yards and 102 touchdowns. Conover also had 560 rushing yards. He went 223 for 327 and 3,306 yards along with 38 touchdowns as a senior.

CHASE ROBERTS – WR- American Fork, Utah

American Fork High School – 6’4, 195 lbs

•A three-star prospect by 247 Sports and ESPN

•Also recruited by USC, Stanford, and Utah

He was  selected to the 2019 Under Armour All-America Game and named to the Deseret News 6A All-State first team in 2017 and 2018. With that he totaled 3,709 receiving yards and 40 touchdowns. Roberts posted 1,717 yards with 18 touchdowns as a senior and helped AFHS to a 2018 state title game.  Along with that he had 1,200 yards and 15 scores as a junior and was the region MVP.

KEANU HILL – WR- Euless, Texas

Trinity High School – 6’3, 190 lbs

•A three-star receiver on 247Sports

•Recruited by Texas Tech, Wyoming

He helped Trinity to a 10-2 season to be named the all-district in 2017 & 2018. He was honored as receiver of the year in 2017. He also played basketball.

CARTER WHEAT – TE- Mesa, Arizona

Red Mountain High School – 6’4 -225

•A three-star tight end on 247Sports

•Also recruited by Arizona, Arizona State, Northern Arizona and Princeton

He Posted 27 receptions, 304 yards and one touchdown as a senior. With that he had 14 catches and 263 yards and two touchdowns as a junior. He also played outside linebacker.

ETHAN ERICKSON – Kahuku, Hawaii

Kahuku High School – 6’5, 225 lbs

•A three-star tight end by 247 Sports

•Also recruited by UCLA, Fresno State, Kansas State, Navy, Eastern Washington, Weber State and Utah State

He was selected as a 2018 Polynesian Bowl All Star, who helped Kahuku to a region championship in 2017. He was also a punter. He has an all-OIA selections in football and basketball.  With that he played on the basketball team that won its first state title in 2017.

BROCK GUNDERSON – OL – Cypress, Texas

Cypress Woods High School – 6’4, 265 lbs

•A three-star recruit by 247 Sports, and ESPN

•Also recruited by Purdue, North Texas, UTEP, Utah State, Army, Air Force, New Mexico and UNLV

Gunderson was an three-time all-district performer on the offensive line. He also played basketball.

ELI UNUTOA – OL- Kapa’a, Hawaii

Kapa’a, Hawaii – 6’5, 290 lbs

•A three-star recruit by 247 Sports

•Also recruited by Cal, Iowa State, Colorado State, Fresno State, San Diego State and Hawaii

Unutoa helped Kapa’a Warriors to a 7-3 record as a senior, including a 5-1 clip in league play.

LUC ANDRADA – RB/WR – Pueblo, Colorado

Pueblo East High School – 5’10, 175 lbs

Andrade threw for 3,135 yards and 33 touchdowns, while running for 886 yards and 17 touchdowns as a senior. He totaled 6,575 passing yards and 62 touchdowns. With that he snagged 1,671 rushing yards and 33 rushing touchdowns. He also ran track.

Javelle Brown – RB/WR – San Diego, California

Mira Mesa High School – 6’1 -180 lbs

He played wide receiver, running back, safety and corner. He was also named No. 23 in San Diego’s top 50 senior list in 2018. With that Brown ran for 652 rushing yards and six touchdowns. He had 540 receiving yards, three scores and 291 kick return yards along with one touchdown as a senior. On Defense he had 19 tackles and a sack. He also ran track.
