Bystanders horrified as man hospitalised after violent Dublin city centre daylight assault

Dublin city centre pedestrians were shocked on Bank Holiday Monday after witnessing a man being viciously assaulted by a group in broad daylight.

The incident occurred at a bus stop on Aston Quay when the man in his 30s was assaulted by the group of men. Footage shows up to eight men surrounding him while he is being hit to the ground, Dublin Live reports.

Bystanders at the bus stop diverge on the path as he is pushed against a wall. He is then kicked repeatedly as shocked onlookers scream at the group to quit it.

Several people are then witnessed on video rushing over to try to assist him before emergency services arrive.

It is understood that personnel from the Fire Brigade, paramedics and gardai arrived to help and assessed the man and question witnesses as to what happened during the daylight assault.

A garda spokeswoman told Dublin Live: "Gardai in Pearse Street were alerted to an alleged assault that occurred on Aston Quay this afternoon Monday 5 June 2023 at approximately 3.30pm.

"A man, aged early 30s, was assaulted by a group of men and was attended to by emergency services. He was removed from the scene to St James's Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Investigations ongoing."
