Byron in Newcastle launches autumn menu featuring new flavours and the return of an old favourite

Burger lovers are being invited to taste the difference at Newcastle favourite Byron as the restaurant launches its new autumn menu.

New flavours - inspired by the east and west coasts of America and including a taste of Kentucky - are out to whet the appetite at the burger chain which is offering a new twist on its signature dish on a revamped menu which also includes the return of its popular skin-on fries.

The company has created the menu with its new food and drink director Sophie Michell, a chef and writer who also has presented Channel 4 Cook Yourself Thin and who here was tasked with revamping and reviving dishes, herself tasting seasonings - and the likes of 20 different versions of bread bun - along the way.

One result is The New Byron, a fresh take on its signature burger which has been "amped-up" with more flavour, cheese and bread and butter pickles and is being described as a total showstopper.

It also has a Bulleit Bourbon Smokey burger which is inspired by the tastes of Kentucky and combines smoky bourbon flavours with a creamy ranch sauce, slaw and fried jalapenos.

Then there's The Le Bleu burger - billed as "one for grown ups" - which promises to be big on beefy flavour with thick grilled onions, premium French blue cheese, port-laced onion jam, wholegrain mustard mayonnaise and spinach.

Fries with skin, which were a former hit at the restaurant, have made a comeback, now with a sprinkling of secret seasoning.

The history of the burger

For chicken fans, two of Byron's classic chicken burgers now have been combined to create the Clucky Smashed Avo  which combines spicy buttermilk-fried chicken breast with sriracha (chili-type) mayo, pickled red onions and smashed avocado, while for those with a sweet tooth can enjoy a Vanilla Chess Pie, a buttermilk custard tart which is served with bourbon caramel sauce and vanilla cream.

Seasonal produce will feature large on the menu in dishes such as a Superfood Grain Salad which combines quinoa, lentils, roast squash and beetroot and comes topped with omega-3 oil-rich seeds.

The new menu is available at Byron restaurant in Newcastle city centre as well as at branches nationwide and it is also available to order via Deliveroo.
