)Byron Bay residents and holidaymakers are on high alert as they wait to find out if there has been community transmission of COVID-19 on the North Coast of New South Wales.
Queensland has recorded eight new cases of COVID-19, including five people who attended a party in Byron Bay at the weekend.
It comes as the Northern Territory government has expanded its list of coronavirus hotspots to include the Byron Shire as a result of the escalating outbreak.
People arriving in the NT from the Byron Shire will now be required to enter mandatory, supervised quarantine, effective immediately.
Mayor of the Byron Shire Council Simon Richardson said there was widespread nervousness in the shire.
"This next 24 hours will either determine whether we can have a decent Easter period with our friends and family and open our doors to visitors."

)The timing of the latest COVID-19 outbreak could not have come at a worse time, as tens of thousands of people are expected to descend on the popular coastal town for a major music event.
Bluesfest, which has a daily capacity of 16,500 people each day over five days, will be held at nearby Tyagarah in the Byron Shire.

)Cr Richardson said he was confident that the event organisers and NSW Health had appropriate safety plans and management in place at the festival site, however, he was concerned about visitors in town.
"COVID is silent and unseen and if someone is unknowingly carrying it, there runs a risk."

NSW Health has updated the locations of where the positive COVID-19 cases spent time in Byron Bay and Ewingsdale.
They include the Byron Beach Hotel, popular cafes and restaurants in Byron Bay and Ewingsdale and a Suffolk Park caravan park.

NSW Health has urged everyone in NSW, especially in the Byron Bay area, with even the mildest of symptoms to come forward for testing, then isolate until they receive a negative result.
