By the numbers: Key stats from Bears 10-3 loss to Packers

After months of anticipation, the Chicago Bears opened up the 2019 NFL season with an absolute dud, dropping the opener 10-3 to the rival Green Bay Packers.

After a promising start from the defense and a 38 yard field goal by Eddy Pineiro to put the Bears up 3-0, the Packers adjusted in the second quarter to move into scoring position.

Aaron Rodgers launched a 47-yard pass to wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling to set them up for an eight-yard touchdown to tight end Jimmy Graham to put Green Bay up 7-3.

The defense would continue to their stellar play, limiting Green Bay to just 213 yards over the course of the game. But the story for Chicago was the play of Mitchell Trubisky and the back-breaking penalties.

Each team committed 10 penalties, yet the Bears had 36 more penalty yards for 107 total, including 30 on three-consecutive plays in the third quarter. Trubisky also struggled to hit anyone not named Allen Robinson, missing wide-open receivers and not progressing through his reads.

Boos rained down on him and the offense on multiple occasions when they weren’t able to convert on third down. He finished 26-of-45 for 228 yards and one interception, thrown to none other than former Bears safety Adrian Amos.
