BuzzFeed has appointed former top Google, AOL and Bebo executive Kate Burns as general manager for Europe.
Burns was Google’s first international hire outside the UK, becoming managing director for the UK, Ireland and Benelux in 2001. She has also served as chief executive of AOL Europe.
Most recently, she was appointed to lead ad tech firm SHIFT’s European expansion.
BuzzFeed president Greg Coleman said: “Kate is a respected leader and veteran of web advertising in Europe and we are thrilled to have Kate join the growing business team in the UK and use her deep knowledge, experience and leadership skills to expand even further in Europe.”
Burns said: “BuzzFeed is a recognisable leader in media and in the digital advertising space and I am delighted to join as the company continues to grow and expands globally.”
Burns replaces former VP of advertising for Europe Will Hayward.
