Buyers protest delay in delivery of flats in Noida

Around 150 homebuyers in Noida protested against the Noida authority and builders on Thursday for not delivering flats on time. The protest took place outside the authority’s Sector 6 office.

Holding placards and wearing black ribbon on arms, buyers shouted slogans against Uttar Pradesh government for not acting against Noida realtors, who diverted funds into other business, failing to complete housing projects as per schedule.

Buyers also accused the Central government of not doing enough to force state governments to form real estate regulatory authority.

Homebuyers who took part in the protest have invested in Jaypee Aman, Lotus 300, Amrapali Heart Beat City, Greater Value Sharnam, 3C and Sunworld Vanalika among other projects. Homebuyers in Jaypee Aman led the protest that started at 11am and ended at 2:30 pm.

“I booked a 3BHK flat in 2008 and paid the total cost because Jaypee Group had promised delivery in 2012. Since 2012, I am paying home loan instalments and house rent. I have lost my patience and am frustrated due to a financial crisis,” Manoj Kumar, homebuyer in Jaypee Aman, said.

Buyers also offered bangles (symbolic of incapacity) to Noida authority officials.

“Farmers are committing suicide out of frustration due to crop failure and debt. If any such thing happens to middle- class homebuyers due to financial burden, the builders will be responsible for it. We want Jaypee to open an escrow account and put funds to complete our project else face protests again,” SK Nagrath, president of Jaypee Aman buyers association, said.

Buyers ended their protest after a meeting with Sachin Gaur, Jaypee Group director, and PK Aggarwal, additional chief executive officer (ACEO) of Noida.

“We will begin work on six towers from August 1 and start delivery by December-end,” Ashok Khera, vice-president of Jaypee Group, said.

Buyers in Lotus 300, Amrapali Heart Beat City, Greater Value Sharnam, 3C and Sunworld Vanalika projects located in sector 107 also joined the protest because builders were yet to start work on site even after Allahabad high court lifted the stay on the land.

Authority chairman Pravir Kumar refused to meet Sector 107 homebuyers.

“In Paris, when permission was denied to protesters, they left shoes on road. We left flowers when chairman Pravir Kumar refused to meet aggrieved buyers,” Punit Parashar, a homebuyer in Amrapali Heart Beat City, said.

“We are working out for solutions for buyers issues,” ACEO said.
