Butlin's holiday company looks set to be sold at auction

Popular holiday resort company Butlin's looks due to be sold at auction by its parent company, it has been reported.

Bourne Leisure owns the budget holiday company which has resorts all over the UK, including in Skegness, where many tourists from Nottinghamshire head.

It has been reported that the firm has picked out investment bankers in a bid to sell the holiday camp next year, according to Sky News.

And it comes less than a year after Bourne Leisure themselves sold majority shares to Blackstone - a global investment business, LeicestershireLive reports.

With new Covid-19 restrictions in place from Tuesday November 30, there remains a boom in British staycations - meaning a potential bidding frenzy could be in order for the well-known holiday camp chain.

The valuation of Butlin's remains unclear at the moment but bankers are convinced there will be a "deluge of interest."

Established by Billy Butlin in 1936, the chain first began in Skegness when, according to its official history, Mr Butlin said he "felt sorry for families staying in drab guest houses with nothing much to do" during a trip to Barry Island, in Wales.

The Skegness resort is among three that still trade today along with Minehead and Bognor Regis.

Having been previously forced to close due to the pandemic, Butlin's Skegness has since reopened to customers who wish to stay at the Lincolnshire resort.
