Butler returns to lead Bulls past Pelicans, 107-99

CHICAGO _ Jimmy Butler is 10 pounds lighter following his illness, according to coach Fred Hoiberg.

That didn't stop Butler from dropping 28 points, eight rebounds and six assists on the Pelicans as the Bulls snapped their three-game skid with a 107-99 victory Saturday afternoon at the United Center.

Butler had missed two games and left early from a third with the nasty flu virus sweeping through the Bulls. The virus claimed Nikola Mirotic for Saturday's matchup against the Pelicans, and Mirotic also won't travel for Sunday's game at the Grizzlies.

Neither will Dwyane Wade, who will be rested as part of the Bulls' new plan for him with back-to-back sets of games. With an off day scheduled, Wade emptied the tank in the fourth, scoring 17 of his 22 points.

Denzel Valentine returned after missing last game with the virus but played just 5 minutes as Rajon Rondo remained in his prominent reserve role. Rondo had six points and five assists in 20 minutes.

Anthony Davis scored 36 points with 14 rebounds to lead the Pelicans. Former Bull E'Twaun Moore added 16 points.
