Butcher launches Lotus Biscoff sausages

A butchers shop has added a somewhat unorthodox new product to its selection of meats, but it has been met by critical acclaim.

Lotus Biscoff is a name you'd normally associate with biscuits, but now the unique cinnamon and caramel flavour has been applied to meat too.

McAtamney's Butchers in Limavady, County Derry, started selling their flavoured sausages recently, and customers can't seem to get enough of them.

The idea was the brainchild of butcher, Brian Bruise, who works in the branch.

His boss, Nigel Steele, revealed his employee is a big fan of the taste, and that's how the sausages came to be.

"It's not really overpowering, but it's quite tasty, it works well," he said.

"Every age group are coming in for them.

"It's got quite a reaction on Facebook."

Nigel went on to reveal that amongst the 1,000 or so comments he had received so far on the social media platform naturally some had reservations, namely 'that's just wrong'. However, the first batch sold out after four hours and customers were soon queuing for more the next day.

Lotus Biscoff biscuits have been around since the 1930s, but have become especially popular in the baking world in recent years.

There may be similar innovations further in the pipeline too at McAtamney's, as Nigel hinted: "We'll see how these got down and we'll probably do a couple of other things and see how they are."
