But Americans like celebrities

The McCain camp clearly thinks they're onto something with this new line on Obama, the one where they dismiss him as a mere celebrity unsuited to the Oval Office.

Spokesman Tucker Bounds today mocks Obama's statement at a Missouri campaign rally, in which the Illinois senator told supporters the GOP is trying to scare them. Bounds said:

Like most celebrities, he reacts to fair criticism with a mix of fussiness and hysteria.

Is this what they brought Steve Schmidt on for? Because I see two fatal problems with this attack.

One, it's inaccurate. A celebrity is someone, like Paris Hilton, who is famous for being famous. Obama is famous because he is a politician running for the most powerful office in the world and because he bested Hillary Clinton, arguable the most famous woman in the world

Second, and more importantly, Americans like celebrities. While Americans may dismiss Paris Hilton and Britney Spears as lightweights and laugh at their antics, Obama is so far removed from them that he cannot evoke the same ridicule. He is a gifted writer and accomplished attorney with degrees from Columbia and Harvard.
