A busy Shotts gran is being recognised for all the hard work she does every day.
Grace Cassidy, 81, has had a tough couple of years but that doesn’t stop her doing everything she can for people.
Kelly Stapleton, Grace’s grand-daughter said: “She always has so much going on but she is a wonder-woman.
“Her sister, Mimi, passed away this month and she is also a full time carer for my papa, Thomas.
“He was diagnosed with vascular dementia around two years ago and she has looked after him ever since.
“Grace has also taken full responsibility to prepare and organise her sister’s funeral.
“We ask her if we can help but she says no, she wants to do it herself.
“She’s always been like that. She needs to be doing something or helping someone all the time.
“She used to be a nurse at the old Hartwood Hospital, so I think that’s where she gets it from.”
As well as all this, Grace used to volunteer after she retired.
“My gran used to volunteer and take an older lady out for her lunch a few times a week but she is too busy now with my Papa,” said Kelly.
“I think she just deserves a bit of recognition, she’s a trooper.”
