Busy section of A82 in Dumbarton to close for overnight works

A busy section of the A82 through Dumbarton is to close for overnight works this month.

Improvements worth £200,000 are set to be carried out on the northbound stretch between Dumbuck Quarry and the Abbotsford Hotel - with the carriageway set to close from Wednesday October 13 until Monday October 18 between 8pm and 6am.

There will be an additional closure of the southbound carriageway offside lane to ensure workers are kept safe.

Additionally, small areas of convoy led lane closures will be undertaken on the night of Saturday October 16 on the southbound A82 carriageway at the Greenhead Road/Strowans Well Road junction, and on the night of Sunday October 17 on the northbound A82 Carriageway at the Esso Dunglass filling station.

The local diversion route for northbound motorists will have traffic exiting the A82 at the Glasgow Road junction.

Traffic will continue before turning right at the traffic lights on to Greenhead Road. Traffic will then follow Greenhead Road for where it will turn left to re-join the A82 Northbound at Stirling Road.

A statement from Amey, who are carrying out the works on behalf of Transport Scotland, said: "This scheme, with a value of £200,000, will benefit around 33,575 vehicles using this route each day, by improving the condition of the carriageway, preventing further deterioration and reducing the need for more extensive maintenance in the future."
