Busy scenes outside hairdressers across Nottinghamshire reopening after months

It's been a long time coming, but customers are finally able to get the mop chopped as barbers and salons reopen today (April 12).

From today, hospitality venues can serve customers outdoors and personal care businesses and gyms can reopen.

And long queues have been spotted forming outside hairdressers in Arnold, Mansfield and Bulwell.

It's estimated around 30 people were queuing outside Pure Kutz in Arnold.

One of them, Debra Underwood, 58, is from Carlton and had been queuing for an hour on Monday morning.

She said: “I haven’t had in cut in four months so looking forward to getting a proper cut. I have a mobile hairdresser sometimes but it’s nice to get out for it."

Kim Chamberlain, 54, from Arnold was waiting outside for her daughter and grandson Cole.

She said: “It’s only his second haircut, it’s been a year since his first.

"Him and his mum got here at 7.45am. I think they (the barbers) opened a bit earlier than normal."

Peter Shepherd, 47, who was queuing to get a haircut on Market Place, said: "It's my first haircut since the start of December and it's definitely needed. It's the first thing I thought about this morning before shopping, it will make me feel much more human being able to get it cut."

Owner of Unique Nails and Beauty salon on Lincoln Street in Nottingham city centre, Van Thien Leu, 46, said: “Today is a very busy day. We have around 70 people booked in for today and tomorrow, so we are already full and we only accept bookings from Wednesday onwards.

"Our customers are very happy and so are we. I’m very excited to be back. We were very tight with money so we’ve been waiting for this.”

Arran Plackett, 26, of Ilkeston, who works for the Environment Agency, spoke to Nottinghamshire Live while he was waiting for a haircut at The Cutfather in Upper Parliament Street.

He said: “These ones are only walk-in. They were like that before, they never do any appointments.

“On the bus on the way I was feeling a little bit weird.

“As you are driving through it’s just nice to sort of get back to normal - or getting (back to normal).”

Mark Bowering, of Q Hairdressing in Nottingham, said it’s "great to be back".

He added: "We’re apprehensive and we’re facing high expectations from our clients but they’re all happy to be back too.

“We’ve had the council here doing a spot check so we’re happy we got through and ticked all the boxes because safety is so important.

“Staying shut has been difficult financially, we’ve maintained communication with our clients and they’ve been supportive. We’re very confident about the future, we’re booked now for the next few months. We’ve experienced this before with the first lock down so we’ll take it as it comes.”

And it's been a busy start to the day as shoppers also queued for stores in Nottingham city centre.

Queues were seen at Primark, Zara, Footlocker and JD Sports on Monday morning.
