Busy road on outskirts of Glasgow closed in both directions due to road traffic accident

A road traffic accident has sparked a road closure in the outskirts of Glasgow.

Traffic information site INRIX have issued an alert advising of the closure of the A77 Ayr Road in both directions in the Newton Mearns area from Whitecraigs Station to Broomvale Drive.

Traffic is reportedly heavy in the area.

The closure has also forced First Glasgow to divert their number 38 bus services. They are currently diverting via Eastwoodmains Road, Busby Road, Mearns Road and Eaglesham Road in both directions.

Police have confirmed that a man has been taken to hospital.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "Around 9.50am on Saturday, 19 February, officers were called to a report of a road crash involving one car on Ayr Road, Newton Mearns. A man has been taken to hospital following the crash."
