Busy road in south Dublin shut down down as bomb squad dealt with suspect device

A busy road in south Dublin was shut down down as the bomb squad dealt with a suspect device.

Crumlin Road has been closed off to traffic as gardai and a bomb squad are dealing with a bomb scare on Rafter's Road.

The road has since reopened, Dublin Live reports.

A garda spokeswoman said: "Gardaí are currently at the scene of a suspect device that was discovered on Rafter’s Avenue in Crumlin shortly after 9am this morning.

"The area is sealed off and the Army EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) are now at the scene. Road diversions are currently in place on the Crumlin Road and Drimnagh Road."

Earlier in the morning, AA Roadwatch said outbound traffic on Crumlin Road is being diverted onto Windmill Road and Kildare Road, with inbound traffic on Drimnagh Road also being directed onto Kildare Road.

Dublin Bus had announced diversions on routes 27, 56a, 77a, and 151.  These buses will operate via Kildare Road and Sundrive Road.

A Dublin Bus spokesperson said: "We wish to advise customers that due to the closure of Crumlin Road route's 27,56a, 77a and 151 will operate via Kildare Road and Sundrive Road.

"We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused."
