A busy main road was closed after a fire broke out in bin lorry.
Waste in the Enva vehicle caught alight with firefighters attending the scene on Greenhills Road on Tuesday afternoon.
South Lanarkshire Council confirmed the road closure due to the load having to be discharged.
There were concerns, however, over the time being taken to remove the smouldering waste, with it not being lifted until this morning, almost 72 hours later.
Head of roads and transportation services, Gordon Mackay, said: “We can confirm that a vehicle fire resulted in Greenhills Road having to be closed between approximately 4.45pm and 6.35pm on Tuesday.
"The road was fully reopened following consultation with our fire and police colleagues.”
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said: “We were alerted to reports of a bin lorry on fire at Greenhills Road. Operations Control mobilised two appliances to the scene.
“Firefighters extinguished a fire in the rear compartment of a refuse vehicle.
“Crews left after ensuring the area was made safe and there were no reported casualties."
Enva said the waste was cordoned off in a lay-by and did not prevent traffic from passing or pose a danger.
