Busy night so far for GMP traffic patrol

It's been a busy night so far for one Greater Manchester Police traffic patrol, after intercepting a suspected drug-driver and recovering a stolen ranger rover in two separate incidents.

Patrol car ME18 tailed and stopped a driver who officers said appeared to be racing their Vauxhall Astra in Wigan Road, Bolton at 10.14pm on Friday.

The driver tested positive for Class B drug cannabis.

GMP Traffic tweeted: "#ME18 spotted this Astra seemingly racing with another vehicle off Wigan Road Bolton. Stopped on St Helen's Road the driver would fail a roadside drug test +cannabis."

A couple of hours later the GMP patrol spotted a suspicious vehicle driving around Farnworth which turned out to be a stolen Range Rover wanted by West Yorkshire Police.

The patrol car gave chase and caught up to the abandoned car after the vehicle thief fled.
