Busy night for traffic cops on streets of Greater Manchester

Two men have been arrested after a police chase in a 'stolen' car.

Traffic cops spotted the dark blue Ford Fiesta in Atherton, which matched a car stolen from Golborne, according to Twitter account GMP Traffic.

Police attempted to stop the car with a spike strip in Lovers Lane and it was eventually abandoned on nearby Oak Tree Close.

Two men were arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle.

A spokesman tweeted: "Stolen Ford Fiesta from Golborne, sighted by Wigan divisional officer in Atherton.

"The driver would attempt to evade the patrol and was stung by XT18 on Lovers Lane.

"Brief pursuit with #TVIU and 2 x males detained TOMV having been abandoned on Oak Tree Close."

It was one of several incidents that the traffic division of GMP dealt with on Tuesday evening (June 15).

In Bury, the driver of a Mercedes was stopped in Heywood Street, after being spotted without a seat belt.

Police reported the driver and seized the car after discovered that it was also uninsured, had no MOT and no tax.

Meanwhile, in Bolton, officers spotted an Audi reversing down Pool Street.

The driver was found not to be the insured driver, so police issued a traffic offence report and seized the car.
