One of the region's busiest roads was closed this afternoon after a sinkhole appeared in the middle of the carriageway.
The emergency closure affected Moor Lane (A565) between The Northern Road and Chesterfield Road in Crosby .
The road was closed in both directions at 4pm because of the collapsed carriageway.
Merseytravel warned that all Arriva and Stagecoach services operating via Moor Lane would be subject to delays and diversions.
Traffic information service Inrix also reported heavy traffic as a result of the emergency roadworks.
It is not known how long the road closure will be in place for.
This afternoon contractors were at the scene working to repair the road surface.
The A565 is one of the busiest roads in the region, linking Liverpool city centre with the Sefton area.
