A section of Prescot Road was closed when firefighters tackled a blaze at at a former Liverpool social club.

A spokesman for the service said that four appliances were sent out to a fairly large fire at the ISC club off Prescot Road in Fairfiled.

The spokesman said that the fire was put out by around 9.30pm this evening. The former social club was empty at the time of the blaze and there were no reports of any injuries. The old club is a three storey detached building.

The fire service could not give details on the extent of the damage at this stage. An investigation will establish the cause.
