A busy link road used as a rat-run between two major commuter routes into Bristol is to close for major improvement work.
The main road through Barrow Gurney – the B3130 Barrow Street – links the A38 to the A370.
The road, also used as a route to Bristol Airport, will been closed for five days later this month for drainage upgrades, vegetation clearing and other maintenance.
The route will be closed at different locations to allow the work to be carried out safely.
The road from Hillside Cottages to Barrow Court Lane will be completely closed between October 28 and November 1.
A night time closure, from 7pm and 7am will be put in place from November 4-22 to carry out work between Cambridge Batch and Barrow Court Lane including the slip roads on/off the A370.
The diversion route, which will use the South Bristol link road, will be signposted and marshals will be on site to organise access to homes and businesses during the work.
North Somerset Council’s executive member for highways, Councillor James Tonkin, said: “We are continuing to invest in our roads and this scheme is part of our ongoing maintenance programme.
“Our engineers have worked closely with the parishes to get this scheme completed with as little disruption as possible.
“Traffic data gives us the best times to put the closure in place, and we aim to get any noisy work done as early in the evening as possible.”
The work is costing nearly £500,000.
