Busy Leeds ring road flyover closed for every weekend in July

The Regent Street flyover will be closed every weekend in July, as a £30 million rebuild project takes place.

There will be full closures on the A64, A64(M) and A61 Regent Street, all of which are connected by the flyover, as the first step in the rebuild begins.

Each weekend in July the flyover will close to vehicles at 8pm on Friday, before re-opening at 5.30am on Monday.

This will take place each weekend until Monday, July 27, when the road is scheduled to open back up to traffic with no additional closures currently scheduled, although the council states further weekend and overnight closures remain likely.

The work is being taken to entirely replace the flyover, which is deteriorating due to damage from road salt and poor construction typical of 1960’s buildings. The current construction is expected to finish by spring 2022.

The flyover is a key part of the ring road, and the A64(M) and A61 Regent Street see a combined average of 70,000 vehicles a day passing through.
