Busy junction in Perth city centre set to reopen

A busy Perth city centre junction is set to reopen.

The junction of Barrack Street, Atholl Street and Caledonian Road has been plagued by major roadworks for the past few weeks, as junction improvement works are carried out.

However, the junction is set to reopen this afternoon (Wednesday, October 23).

Perth and Kinross Council says this is because the works have been completed ahead of schedule.

A spokesperson for the local authority said: “We can confirm that the majority of the junction improvement works are now complete, ahead of schedule, at the Barrack Street, Atholl Street and Caledonian Road junction in Perth.

“As a result, we will be switching on traffic signals and reopening the junction in all directions this afternoon (Wednesday, October 23).

“The council can additionally confirm that all bus services which have been subject to diversions during the works will resume their normal routes as of 5pm today.”

The works began on Monday, August 26 and were expected to last 10 weeks - however the junction has been reopened after just over eight weeks.

Although the junction is reopening, there are still some works that need to be finished off.

The spokesperson continued: “Some footway resurfacing works remain to be completed, which will be undertaken via a footway closure and carriageway lane closures to allow them to be carried out safely and as efficiently as possible.

“We anticipate that these works will be completed by next Friday, November 1.

“We would also like to remind residents and visitors alike that businesses in the city centre are open as usual and can still be accessed during the remaining works.”
