One of Edinburgh's busiest dog-walking and cycling hotspots is set to close for temporary improvements at the end of the month.
The Union Canal provides a scenic path stretching across tens of miles and in Edinburgh, starts at Fountainbridge and carries on all the way to Falkirk.
The Edinburgh stretch is often used for locals and cyclists as a speedy commute to work or quiet route away from the main road to walk.

People will, however, have to put up with a temporary closure of the Redhall part of the canal as work is set to begin on canal bank improvements on January 31.
Scottish Canals posted an update on their site, saying: "To allow canal bank improvement works at Redhall, there will be a towpath closure from 31st January 2022.
A localised towpath diversion will be in place to allow works to be carried out safely.
Scottish Canals apologises for any inconvenience caused."
This means the busy part of the canal heading out towards Redhall and Kingsknowe will be closed to the public while the work is being carried out.
Although it is currently unclear how long the works will last, Scottish Canals will update locals when the work begins with a more accurate timescale.
During the first Covid-19 lockdown, the Union Canal was a hotspot for walkers and cyclists, with several reports of overcrowding on the narrow path being voiced.
As well the useful path that follows the canal, it is often used for kayaking and other water sports, as well as fishing.
Several canal boats can also be found floating on the stretch of water, with Edinburgh residents using the water as the perfect destination to park up.
