Busy Edinburgh road to be taken over by religious parade this afternoon

A busy Edinburgh road will be taken over by a parade this afternoon with police on-hand to manage traffic.

Great Junction Street in Leith will welcome a Jaloos procession shortly before 2pm, with motorists to expect some slight delays.

The Muslim procession has been taking place each year in Leith, typically emerging from the Mosque and Community Centre on King Street, stepping on to Great Junction Street and heading to the statue of Queen Victoria at the Foot of the Walk for speeches, before turning back.

The council-run Edinburgh Travel News social media account said the parade is expected to take place around 1.45pm, with police on hand to manage traffic.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "We are aware of the event and it will be policed appropriately. Local officers will assist with traffic management to ensure everyone's safety during the event."
