Busy Edinburgh road partially blocked after collision on outskirts of city

A busy main road on the outskirts of Edinburgh is partially blocked due to a collision, causing delays for commuters.

The M9 at Newbridge is currently restricted due to the smash, with images from the scene showing huge tailbacks forming in the area. Motorists have been urged to approach with caution.

The incident occurred at Junction 1 shortly after 9am and traffic is slow on approach. Traffic Scotland issued a warning to motorists on Twitter, although is it currently unclear how many vehicles are involved in the incident.

They said: "NEW: 09:03 M9 Junction 1 Restricted Southbound at Junction 1 Newbridge due to a collision. Traffic slowing on the approach- Approx 10 minute delay on the approach."

The smash is understood to have caused considerable delays on the outskirts of the city, affecting Kirkliston, Ratho Station and Newbridge.

Police Scotland were approached for comment.
