Busy Edinburgh motorway carriageway to close overnight for major repair work

A major Edinburgh access route is set to be closed overnight while road crews carry out essential work on gantry signage.

Transport chiefs have urged motorists planning trips north of Edinburgh via the M90 - which connects to the Queensferry Crossing - to reroute their journeys between February 24 and 25 while maintenance is carried out.

Drivers travelling via junction 1A at Kirkliston to Queensferry will be unable to pass between 8pm and 5am across those dates.

In addition, the A90 northbound will be restricted to a single lane running in the hard shoulder from Scotstoun underpass to the Queensferry junction.

Diversions will be in place redirecting motorists wishing to join the M90 northbound to exit at Junction three Burghmuir and continue via the A803 and the A904 to Queensferry.

Southbound motorists should turn at M9 Junction 1 Newbridge, before joining the same diversion route as northbound M9 traffic.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s Network Manager for South East Scotland, said: “It is essential to close the northbound M90 on the night of 24 February to allow safe access for our operatives to repair sign panels on overhead gantries.

“We’ve scheduled the works at night to minimise disruption, however motorists planning to travel on the night of 24 February should plan ahead and allow some extra time for their journey.

“We’re grateful to road users and local communities for their patience.”
