Busy city centre road closed after two car smash

A busy road in Liverpool city centre was closed after a car crash.

The emergency services were called out to the junction of Upper Parliament Street and Hope Street at around 5.30pm today ( Wednesday) following reports of a crash.

The accident involved a grey Volvo and black Renault Zoe. Pictures from the scene showed damage to the front end of the Volvo. An air bag had been activated inside the car.

The scene was behind a police cordon while emergency workers including the fire service made the scene safe.

A police spokesman confirmed officers were called to the junction of Upper Parliament Street and Hope Street at around 5.30pm today following an accident involving a Volvo and a Renault.

The spokesman added that there were no reports of injuries and that police had closed a section of the road.
