After being closed for almost a month Gipsy Patch Lane is set to reopen ahead of the Monday morning rush hour.
The road in South Gloucestershire was closed at the beginning of June as part of a major project to demolish the railway bridge to accommodate a new metrobus route.
Over the past four weeks BT has been carrying out preparation work to divert underground utilities before demolition works begin.
The bridge works are part of the Cribbs Patchway metrobus extension (CPME) scheme, which will provide a direct bus link between Bristol Parkway and The Mall.
South Gloucestershire Council has said that Openreach has not been able to complete all of the planned work at the site, but that the road will still reopen on Monday (July 1).
A spokesperson said: “The remaining work to lower some of the ducts and cables will now be carried out during the main Cribbs Patchway metrobus extension construction programme in 2020 to avoid the need to extend the current closure.”
The authority said the delay was due to unexpected ground conditions and locations of other live utility pipes and cables.
South Gloucestershire Council has been praised for its handling of the closure, and the fact that there seemed to be little impact on traffic in the area over the past month.
The council said a considerable amount of work had gone into the preparation ahead of the closure and that it had learnt lessons from previous experiences such as the works around the Bromley Heath Viaduct.
Once complete, the bridge work will enable both a general traffic and a bus lane in each direction as well as shared use cycle and pedestrian pathways.
The scheme will also include footway widening and new bus lanes along other sections of Gipsy Patch Lane.
