Busker singing 'You've got a friend in me' to child with autism on Luas goes viral on TikTok

A popular Dublin busker singing to a young boy with autism on the Luas last year has gone viral on TikTok.

In the video Mick McLoughlin, a busker who performs regularly on the street of Dublin, whipped out his guitar and sang 'You've got a friend in me' to seven-year-old Edward Gilligan on the Luas.

Terence Power, Edward's big brother and popular co-host of the 'Talking Bollox Podcast', told Dublin Live the busker regularly performs to his brother, who has non verbal autism.

He said: "He sings to my brother any time he sees him in town."

Edward lives in Cabra with his family including his twin brother Kai.

The heartwarming video was made before facemasks were mandatory, but Terence only got around to putting it on TikTok when he signed up to the platform in recent weeks.

Terence, who has posted the video to his social media channels, added: "The support on it is unbelievable. I posted it on my Instagram a while back and on Facebook and the support then was amazing.

"But I recently made TikTok and said I'd share it on that and I'm so glad I did now!"

The busker, Mick McLoughlin, said in a post on Facebook that the reaction has "blown his mind" after noticing the video going viral on Reddit and TikTok.

He said: "The reaction to this video has blown my mind.

"Edward is my pal and always will be. He is such an amazing kid and couldn't believe I saw him that day on the Luas.

"I see the happiness every time I see him coming up town and that's what I miss - seeing him coming."

You can hear more from the talented artist on his Facebook page here - or if you're lucky, you might come across him on the streets of our lovely city.

What a way to brighten someone's day.
