Busker outside Stereophonics gig goes home with 166 bottles of booze from fans

A busker outside a Stereophonics gig got more than just a few coins thrown in his hat - he was gifted 166 unopened bottles and cans of booze by the band's fans.

The street entertainer, who plays drums and goes by the name Busking Joe, tweeted a pic of the massive haul he accumulated when the Cwmaman rockers played to an 8,000-strong crowd at the Scarborough Open Air Theatre on Thursday.

"Busking Stereophonics last night and the people of Scarborough left me 166 bottles of alcohol," posted Joe, who performs all over the country.

"I'll say that again, one hundred and sixty six unopened bottles of alcohol!"

The tipples ranged from canned gin and tonics to bottles of cider and beer.

When asked how he got the stash home he replied that he used the trolley in which he normally wheels his kit and "a 20 inch bass drum case."

"Carrying them upstairs was the worst bit," he added.

The 'Phonics' Scarborough show was the band's first concert in 16 months and had been dubbed by many as the beginning of a return to live music in the UK after swingeing Covid restrictions.

The band expressed their delight at performing again - saying on Twitter: "It's good to be back."

They have just put the finishing touches to their 12th album and are expected to hit the road at some point in the near future.

Stereophonics’ last album Kind was released in October 2019 and it became the band’s seventh Number 1 album in the UK, shifting more than 30,000 copies in its first week.
