A grateful businessman played the part of Santa Claus as he delivered gifts to a group of volunteers who’ve looked after his elderly mother.
John McKissock, who owns McKissock Electrical in New Road, Ayr, dropped off a number of Christmas hampers to the carers as a thank you for all the help they’ve given his mother.
John’s mother Margaret, 78, lives with dementia, so it’s been a particularly difficult time for her– and for many others like her.
However, John says she has been given all the care and attention she needs- and it’s all thanks to the seven selfless volunteers who’ve eased her situation during lockdown.
John, 55, said: “I would really like the Ayrshire Post to promote all these carers who’ve looked after my mum.
“We managed to keep her out of a nursing home last year and we got her home. Since then, South Ayrshire Carers Direct have been absolutely amazing.
“They have been terrific and I want to thank them all.
“We have four regulars and three stand-ins and I got them seven hampers.”
The hampers included everything you need for a delicious Christmas treat such as crackers, cheeses, wine, pâté and much more.
And John was on hand last Tuesday to drop off the gifts in Maybole.
He said: “When my mother goes to her day care centre, the volunteers get her all dressed up and she’d look amazing!
“I am so grateful for these carers who have done their utmost to keep my mother supported and this is just my way of saying thank you to them.”
He added: “These girls really are angels and they have been brilliant with my mother throughout.”
