Businessman, MBA graduate held in Delhi for duping scores

NEW DELHI: A 55-year-old businessman and an MBA graduate have been arrested by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Delhi Police for allegedly duping people of crores of rupees on different pretexts.

In the first case, the arrested man has been identified as Shankar Kashid from Mumbai. EOW had filed an FIR against him on a complaint filed by a businessman alleging that he had been cheated of Rs 4.53 crore. Kashid took money promising to deliver raw material required by the complainant, but allegedly absconded after taking the money, police said.

“During investigation, the complainant was examined and notice was sent to the accused seeking his reply but no response was received. Since the registration of the FIR in 2020, Kashid never joined the probe. He also claimed through a forged confirmation letter that the complainant had received all items,” said Chhaya Sharma, joint commissioner (EOW).

The court then issued a non bailable warrant against Kashid, after which he was arrested from Mumbai.

In the second case, EOW arrested a man named Dhiraj Prasad (44), a resident of east Patel Nagar in central Delhi for allegedly duping a businessman of Rs 1.5 crore.

EOW had received a complaint from a businessman alleging that he had entered into a deal with Prasad and his associates to develop a property. The accused allegedly claimed that their company had the rights to develop a property in Vadant Kunj and took money from the complainant on this pretext. The victim later came to know that Prasad had made false claims. TNN
