Businessman found dead in Southern guesthouse

NAKHON SI THAMMARAT: A man was found dead in a room at a guesthouse in Ron Phibun district with a gunshot wound to the head on Saturday night. He was believed to have committed suicide.

The man was identified as Nikorn Boontor, 51, a businessman who ran a shop selling fertilisers, plant seeds, chemicals for agriculture and construction materials in Ron Phibun district.

Staff at the guesthouse told police investigators that Nikorn arrived in a pick-up truck on Saturday afternoon, checked in for a short stay and ordered two bottles of beer.

At checkout time, a resort employee went to the room and knocked on the door. When there no answer, he unlocked the door and found Nikorn lying dead on the bed with a gunshot wound to the head, a gun in his right hand.

The spent shell of a 9mm bullet was found in the room. Nobody reported hearing the gunshot.

Nikorn's wife told police investigators that her husband had been under stress because of the business had faced financial difficulties in the current economic climate.
