Businessman abducted, brutally beaten and dumped at side of road

A businessman was abducted from his home before being beaten and dumped at the side of a road.

Kevin Lunney was taken from his family home yesterday evening.

The 50-year-old, Director and Chief Operating Officer at Quinn Industrial Holdings (QIH), had been at his family home in Derrylin, Co Fermanagh.

His car was found ablaze near the house at around 7pm, reports the Irish Mirror.

Mr Lunney was then seriously assaulted before being dumped in Drumcoughill, Cornafean in Co Cavan.

The victim was found by locals at around 9pm before being brought to Cavan General Hospital.

The businessman suffered severe injuries to his face and a broken leg.

Adrian Barden, Chairman of QIH, has condemned the "outrageous" attack.

He said: “Kevin Lunney’s abduction and assault is an outrageous attack on a hard working father of six children but also on his 830 colleagues at QIH and the wider community in the Cavan-Fermanagh region.

"For several hours last evening Kevin’s wife, family and very many friends were left to contemplate the worst."

PSNI Detective Inspector Trevor Stevenson said: “This was a horrific attack, and we are liaising with our colleagues at An Garda Síochána.

“Our inquiries are at a very early stage and at this time, I am appealing for anyone who may have witnessed a black saloon Audi being driven in the Derrylin, Fermanagh / Swanlinbar, Cavan areas to contact us or our Gardaí colleagues.”

A garda spokesman added: "Gardaí and the PSNI are cooperating into the investigation of an incident that occurred in Fermanagh yesterday evening, Tuesday 17th of September.
