Businesses urged to join the Santa Dash

How many people in your business will be 'being Santa' in the run-up to Christmas?

In the case of Rolls-Royce the answer is 102 – that is the number of colleagues joining thousands of others to do the famous Glasgow Santa Dash.

The event run by Glasgow City Council takes place on Sunday 8 December and will see a tide of red and white Santa bobble hats flowing up St Vincent Street and across the city centre.

The famous 5k run has been fully subscribed in each off the last three years with fundraisers signing up to don Father Christmas costumes and raise money for charities.

This year there are spaces for 10,000 runners to take part in the growing event. Anyone wanting to take part can pick up their race numbers and Santa suits from St Enoch Centre before they get going.

But the council is encouraging runners to use their own Santa suits this year by offering a 10% discount on fees.

The cash raised will be split 75/25 between Beatson Cancer Charity and The Lord Provost's Children's Fund which helps disadvantaged children and young people living in Glasgow by helping to relieve poverty, advance education and help children in ill health, disability of financial hardship.

Maisie McCormick, community fundraising manager at the Beatson Cancer Charity, said: “We are absolutely delighted to be the beneficiary of this year’s Glasgow Santa Dash. This is the highlight of the year in Glasgow city centre, and we really cannot wait to see everyone in their Santa suits and fancy dress running up St Vincent Street.

"All of the fantastic donations we receive from this event go towards supporting patients and families living with cancer. It is because of the generosity, kindness and commitment of our supporters that Beatson Cancer Charity can continue make a significant and positive difference to the lives of so many.”
