Businesses targeted in Melba and Curtin ramraids

Police are investigating two incidents in quick succession early on Wednesday morning in which separate business premises were targeted, but they do not believe the two are linked.

At the Melba shops about 5am, thieves used a silver Kia Sportage to smash open the rear doors of the supermarket, police said.

Two people were seen entering the shop but police do not believe anything was taken. Significant damage was caused to the rear doors.

The second incident occurred about 5.15am at the Curtin shops, where a person used an axe to smash the front door of the bottle shop, police said.

The offender then allegedly used a vehicle to attempt to remove the door from the frame, but did not gain access.

Police and are asking for anyone who witnessed suspicious activity at the Melba or Curtin shops overnight or early this morning to come forward.

Anyone who has information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or visit the Crime Stoppers ACT website, and quote 6956996 for the Melba incident and 6957003 for the Curtin incident. Information can be provided anonymously.
