Businesses burglarized in Austin: police

The 4900 block of West North Avenue

Police are warning businesses to keep and maintain a security system following four commercial burglaries reported in May and June in Austin on the West Side.

In each incident, the offender uses a rock or brick to break the front door, enters the business and removes items from the premises, according to a community alert from Chicago police.

These burglaries happened:

  • May 15 in the 4800 block of West North Avenue;
  • May 19 in the 4900 block of West North Avenue;
  • May 28 in the 1500 block of North Cicero Avenue; and
  • June 2 in the 5000 block of West Armitage Avenue.

All incidents happened in the late evening or early morning hours, police said.

Police describe the suspect as a male standing between 5-foot-8 and 6-feet and weighing between 150 and 200 pounds, with a bald head and a dark brown complexion.

Anyone with information about these burglaries is asked to call Area North detectives at 312-744-8263.
