Business up for top award

A West Lothian business that champions outdoor learning is in the running for yet more awards.

Love Outdoor Learning was named as a finalist in the Edinburgh University Inspire, Grow, Launch Awards, receiving £500 in prize money and a photography package.

The outdoor learning portal was designed for schools and teachers by Carol Murdoch, who is also the creator of Carol’s Tutoring.

It provides lesson ideas as well as curricular maps and training covering children from three to 12 years of age.

Carol said: “As a student completing my Masters in Learning for Sustainability and a primary school teacher, I understand the need for this and I am really proud to be a runner up.”

Carol continued: “We are also in the running to be named one of the best rural businesses in the UK after being shortlisted for a regional Rural Business Award.

“The regional final will be held virtually in October 2021, with the National Final taking place early next year.

“We are the only Scottish business in the Sustainability and Environmental Award category and one of only six Scottish businesses listed (out of 36 businesses in the Northern area.”

The Rural Business Awards 2021/2022, in partnership with Amazon, will mark the awards’ seventh year of celebrating the success of businesses across the UK’s rural economy. The Awards are organised by rural business for rural business with the aim of celebrating the achievements of rural businesses and developing a strong network for rural business owners.

Director and Co-Founder of The Rural Business Awards, Jemma Clifford, said: “We are excited to celebrate the 2021/2022 awards after such a challenging year for businesses.

“We are passionate about creating a nurturing environment where rural businesses can develop, and this starts by showcasing the great work they do. On behalf of everyone at the Rural Business Awards, we want to say well done to Love Outdoor Learning and wish them luck ahead of the regional finals.”
