Business support scheme launches in Bristol to boost young entrepreneurs

Young entrepreneurs and early-stage start-ups in Bristol are being invited to apply for business support worth £5,000.

The scheme, being run by virtual office and services provider Virtually There, is aimed at kickstarting fledgling enterprises.

The Young Entrepreneurs Scheme is open to people aged between 16 and 25 years old who have a business idea or a pre-existing start-up.

Successful applicants will attend a free start-up 101 workshop, delivered in partnership with business incubator Enterprise Orchard, and will receive a free year of virtual office space, virtual receptionist or assistant services, and one-to-one mentoring with industry experts.

According to Virtually There, which was co-founded by Edgar Thoemmes and Jack Head, the programme of support is aimed at “empowering” young entrepreneurs.

The duo said they launched the scheme following the "devastating" impact of the pandemic on youth unemployment.

“As serial founders ourselves, we know just how tough it can be starting out," said Mr Thoemmes. "We want to offer the next generation a helping hand in reaching their entrepreneurial goals."

Mr Head added: “Many young people have had to rely on their creativity and initiative to unearth opportunities. We feel it is our responsibility to empower them.”

Applicants are being asked to upload a short video of themselves explaining their business or idea, with applications closing on Thursday, August 12.

Applications for the scheme can be made at virtually-there.net/young-entrepreneur-scheme.
