Business Gateway West Lothian, which provides expert support and guidance to start up and growth businesses, has announced plans for a series of events.

Taking place during Business Enterprise Week, the events run from October 28 until November 2, including a joint event with KPMG on October 30 at Howden Park Centre.

The aim of Business Enterprise Week is to highlight the specialist help available to businesses across all sectors and at all stages from Business Gateway West Lothian in areas, including marketing, accountancy, legal issues, funding and investment.

Workshops throughout the week include Business Finance for Start Ups and Blogging, both on October 29 at Howden Park Centre and a Social Media Masterclass on October 31 at the Burgh Halls in Linlithgow.

Marketing for Growth will be held on November 1 at Howden Park Centre and Women into Business: Building a Successful Business is on Saturday, November 2 at East Calder Partnership Centre.

The highlight of the week will be a joint event for growth businesses with Business Gateway West Lothian and one of the largest and most renowned accounting firms in the world, KPMG, entitled ‘Trading in Uncertain Times’ at Howden Park Centre on October 30 from 9am until 12.30pm, where attendees can get advice on support available, local grant schemes and risk protection.

Speaking at the event will be James Dewar, associate director at KPMG, who will be talking about key warning signs to look out for during times of uncertainty, assessing who is at risk, managing cash and getting the most from your resources.

Various experts will be on hand at the event to answer questions, including a Business Gateway Growth Adviser and event partners West Lothian Chamber of Commerce, Solve HR, Resource Efficient Scotland, Martin Aitken & Co, Managed IT Experts, Harper Macleod, Johnson Allan, Skills Development Scotland, Matrix Business Growth Consultants and St Andrews Management Centre.

Attendees will also have the chance to speak to representatives from council services in areas including planning, building standards, development management, procurement, environmental health and trading standards and take part in workshops, focussing on everything from GDPR to HR and tax incentives to resource efficiency.

Jim Henderson, Business Gateway Manager at West Lothian Council, said: “I would encourage businesses to register quickly for their preferred event during Enterprise Week. This is a great chance for businesses to find out about all the financial and specialist support available and network with other businesses.”
