Police are warning Northwest Side business owners after two commercial burglaries were reported blocks away from each other in Hermosa in September and October.

In both cases, the suspect broke the front door or panel of a business with a rock or blunt instrument and stole merchandise and cash, Chicago police said in an alert.

The first burglary happened about 3:45 a.m. Sept. 23 in the 4300 block of West North Avenue, police said. A second one occurred about 3:50 a.m. Oct. 10 in the 4500 block of West North Avenue.

The suspect is described as a male standing 6-foot to 6-foot-2 and weighing 180 to 190 pounds, police said. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, dark jeans, gloves and a black ski mask.

Anyone with information about the burglaries is asked to contact Area North detectives at 312-744-8263.
