China details special port fees for U.S.-linked ships

China’s Ministry of Transport has released implementation rules for levying special port fees on ships linked to the U.S. Ships built by Chinese shipyards are exempt from the fee.

China sanctions Hanwha Ocean’s U.S. units

China has blacklisted five U.S.-based subsidiaries of South Korea’s Hanwha Ocean. The Ministry of Commerce said the units assisted and supported U.S. government investigations in a way that harmed China’s sovereignty, security and development interests.

DJI appeals U.S. “military company” designation

Chinese drone maker DJI said Tuesday that it has appealed a U.S. court ruling that upheld its inclusion on the Pentagon’s list of “Chinese military companies.” DJI stated its firm opposition to the use of its products for military or combat purposes and said it has taken comprehensive measures to prevent such misuse.

Gaza ceasefire signed

The leaders of the U.S., Egypt, Qatar and Turkey signed a Gaza ceasefire agreement in Egypt on Oct. 13 local time. U.S. President Donald Trump said the focus in Gaza is now on restoring the foundations for a good life through large-scale reconstruction. Qatar said discussions on the second phase of the agreement have begun and are expected to be difficult.

eSIM trials approved

China’s three major state-owned telecom operators — China Unicom, China Mobile and China Telecom — have all received regulatory approval for commercial trials of eSIM technology for mobile phones. eSIMs replace physical SIM cards, which can make devices like smartphones thinner and create more internal space.

Apple deepens renewable energy use

Apple Inc. announced that over 90% of its manufacturing in China is now powered by renewable energy. The company also said its suppliers in the country have launched a 1 billion yuan ($140 million) new energy fund.
