China reassures foreign enterprises on stability

Premier Li Qiang told the China Development Forum Sunday that the country is committed to acting as a “cornerstone of certainty” and a “haven of stability” for the world, pledging to fully implement national treatment for foreign enterprises.

Vice Premier He Lifeng met with representatives of the U.S.-China Business Council and executives from multinational corporations, including HSBC Holdings PLC, UBS Group AG, Louis Dreyfus Co. Ltd., Siemens Healthineers AG, Schneider Electric SE, Rio Tinto PLC, Prudential PLC, Investor AB, Standard Chartered PLC, Suzano SA and TCP Group. He expressed hope that U.S. companies would inject more stability into bilateral trade relations.

China pushes to boost inbound consumption

The Ministry of Commerce announced 16 policy measures to orderly expand the scope of unilateral visa-free entry and optimize transit visa-free policies. The guidelines emphasize improving the consumption environment for foreign visitors and enhancing cross-border travel convenience.

Strict rules for state-owned enterprise leaders

The General Offices of the Communist Party Central Committee and the State Council issued a regulation on the professional integrity of state-owned enterprise leaders, explicitly prohibiting 58 behaviors. The rules target hidden corruption such as holding shares through proxies, while forbidding reckless decision-making, like blind business expansion and taking on excessive debt.

China triggers pork reserves as prices plunge

The National Development and Reform Commission and the agriculture ministry deployed central and local frozen pork reserves after domestic pig prices fell into the tier-1 warning zone for excessive declines due to softening post-holiday consumption. The agencies also urged farming companies to adjust capacity to stabilize the market.

Trump’s ceasefire stance

U.S. media reported the conditions for a ceasefire with Iran proposed by Donald Trump’s administration, as Tehran responded with six firm counter-demands. However, Trump stated he is ‘not interested’ in a ceasefire and that the U.S. will no longer assume responsibility for escorting ships in the Strait of Hormuz. The U.S. instead approved the temporary delivery and sale of Iranian oil.

In the region, tensions escalated as an Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps spokesman was killed in an attack, and Houthi militants threatened to blockade the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. Separately, an attack on QatarEnergy facilities slashed its liquefied natural gas exports by 17%, causing an estimated $20 billion loss in annual revenue.

Musk unveils Terafab AI computing project

SpaceX and Tesla Inc. launched the Terafab project, which aims to achieve an annual production capacity of 1 terawatt of artificial intelligence computing power, according to Elon Musk. About 80% of the AI chips produced will be used in space, with the remainder allocated for ground applications.
